Why Go Vegan for Health?

The health benefits of veganism is not merely confined to human health! It is also best for other living beings. There are more compelling reasons to go vegan for the animals, and it is not just about a cruelty free lifestyle. It also about veganism and the environment connection.

Why Go Vegan for Health?

Ideally, living in the twenty-first century, we should be living the best of our lives when compared to the previous generation. But we spend far more on healthcare than any other nation in the world and yet two-thirds of Americans are overweight, and more than 15 million Americans have diabetes. The Mayo Clinic estimates that nearly 70 percent of Americans take at least one prescription drug(1).

It all boils down to what we eat. Michael Pollan, author of the Omnivore’s Dilemma, said, “ Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” A simple, yet a strong message that encourages plant-based meals and to go vegan for health. Researchers too agree that most deaths in the U.S. are preventable, and they are related to what an individual eats(2).

A 2015 review revealed that a plant-based diet offered protection against heart diseases(3). Also, a new review published in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases found that vegan dietary habits reduce heart disease death and risk of heart problems by 40%(4). Researchers also concluded that plant-based diets are the only dietary pattern to have shown a reversal of heart disease.

Plant-based Diets:

  • Reduces the risk of death from cardiovascular disease by 40 percent.

  • Reduces the risk of coronary heart disease by 40 percent.

  • Fully or partially opens blocked arteries in up to 91 percent of patients.

  • Reduces the risk of hypertension by 34 percent.

  • Is associated with 29 mg/dL and 23 mg/dL lower total cholesterol and LDL-C levels, respectively, compared with non-vegetarian diets.

  • Is associated with weight loss.

What we eat is the number one cause of premature death and disability. Isn’t it vital that we pay attention to what we put into our bodies on a daily basis?
